What is the difference between 2D, 3D and 4D ultrasound images?

3D images will show the surface structures of your baby like chubby cheeks and sweet little hands and feet.   2D images show the inner structures such as his organs and skeletal structures.  A 4D image is simply 3D images in motion.  Watch your baby yawn, stretch and maybe even suck his thumb!

Is it safe?

Studies over the years have shown ultrasounds are safe both for mother and baby.  Ultrasound images are simply created by sound waves.  3D and 4D images use the same sound wave intensity that 2D images use.  Ultrasounds DO NOT use any radiation to create the images.

Do I still need to have an ultrasound with my doctor?

Yes!!! We can not stress the importance of regular check-ups with your doctor enough!  This is simply a way for you to get a sneak peek of what your baby actually looks like.  It in no way is meant to replace your regular prenatal exams with your doctor.  In order to receive a 3D/4D scan we ask you to provide proof that you have already received your diagnostic 2D scan with your doctor.

What will my 3D/4D scan show?

The ultrasounds we offer are limited diagnostic.  This means the only information you will receive regarding your babies development is the babies weight, heart beat reading and, if desired, gender determination.  The images obtained will NOT be read or reviewed by a medical physician. However, if the sonographer is suspicious of any abnormality, your doctor will be notified.

Will my insurance cover this ultrasound?

No.  This is an elective procedure and insurance does not cover it.  We offer a variety of packages to fit anyone’s budget and payment is to be made at the time of service.

What is the difference between a CD and a DVD?

The CD you receive contains still images of your baby.  The DVD contains the entire live 4D ultrasound from start to finish.  Both can be shared with family members unable to attend this exciting event!

How early do I arrive prior to my appointment time?

We recommend you arrive 5-10 minutes early.  There will be one form for you to complete before your ultrasound.

What can I do to help obtain the best images of my baby?

We recommend mothers be well hydrated when they arrive for their ultrasound.  The more fluid there is around your baby the better the images will be.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, Master Card, Visa and Discover.  We do not accept checks.

What factors will affect the quality of images that are obtained?

There are many factors that affect the quality of the pictures obtained.

  1. Fetal positioning: While some babies are in perfect position for their pictures others simply are not.  Our sonographer will do her best to achieve the best results possible but remember all babies are different.  We encourage you to relax and enjoy to amazement of the entire experience!
  2. Maternal tissue: The more tissue there is between the ultrasound probe and the baby, the less quality will be seen in the pictures.  We recommend fuller figured mothers wait a little later in their pregnancies to have their ultrasounds.  For 2D: 20+ weeks and for 3D/4D between 30 and 32 weeks.

Can the gender of my baby be determined?

We will do our best to accurately confirm your babies gender.  If we are unable to do so you may return for a mini-session at no charge when your baby is in better position.  This must be done within 2 weeks of the initial visit.
